Fi19 =22 | Richard FitzAlan, 10th Earl of Arundel b c 1350 ex c 1398 by the hand of his son-in-law at the behest of King Richard II for opposing Richard's expropriation of Henry Bolingbroke's possessions.
Richard had had a most brilliant career a Admiral of the fleet during this phase of the 100 Years War against France capturing many ship and high ranking prisoners whose ransoms filled Richard's purse with little thanks.
But Henry Bolingbroke soon put Richard in the Tower where he seems to have died of starvation, making it easy for Bolingbroke to snatch the crown with Richard's declared heir a minor and a hostage in distant Wales.
Hence the stage was set so early for the Wars of Roses and the downfall of the House of Platagenet.
