Cheyne 1

: Caisneto or Chesney of Caisneto or Chesney, Chesney of Addington, Chesney of Horsford

m Peter FitzHenry son of Henry FitzAilwin of London
This family probably originated in Quesnai, Normandy. In England the name was originally spelt de Chesney or de Chasney, being 'latinised' as de Caisneto, and later Cheyney or Cheney. In Scotland the name was commonly spelt Chen from the early 14th century and Cheyne from about 1600. Their progenitor, who came to England at the time of or shortly after the Conquest, was ...

Ch=28 =29 =30 Philip de Caisneto or Chesney of Addington
Ch27 =28 =29 Bartholomew de Chesney of Addington BHO has some contradictions. 'The Environs of London' vol 1, Addington reports that Batholomew had 2 daughters, one married Peter grandson of Ailwin of London and the other married William Aguillon who inherited part of Addington. VCH Sussex, vol 7, Fulking reports that Bartholomew's dau/heir Isabel m. Peter, eldest son of Henry Fitz Ailwin, Mayor of London, and that their younger daughter Joan m2. William Aguillon d 1244. We follow the latter view which is supported by VCH Surrey, vol 4, Addington.
Ch26 =27 =28 Isabel de Chesney Wikipedia identifies Peter 1165-1207 as eldest son of Henry c1135-1212 who became the first Mayor of London in 1189.

However, TCP Bardolf identifies Hugh Bardolf's wife as Isabel, "da. and 15 Feb 1285/6 sole h." of Sir Robert Aguillon of Addington by his 1st wife Joan, dau of William Ferrers, Earl of Derby. That Joan is shown by TCP Derby as "dead in Oct. 1267" so a 2nd wife of Robert could not have been mother by Robert of Margery who m. Jordan de Sackville as the latter is reported by Collins to have died in 1Ed1 1272. We suspect that Margery may well have been co-heir of Sir Robert but was his sister rather than daughter.
