Dig up those old bones and get them dancing!

Change the two party system

THE TRIBES OF WALES

As reported on the Individuals page, this page identifies the various people who are called the founders or progenitors of the Tribes of Wales. As many of the pedigrees delve into mythology, it is perhaps not surprising that different people identify the tribes differently. But John Edward Griffith's work, Griffith's Pedigrees seems to be a comparatively exhaustive and methodical work on the subject dealing with conflicting sources as well as one can.

There are 2 sections below:
(A) 37 founders of many Welsh families as reported by John Edward Griffiths (references F1-F37).
(B) 22 progenitors of many Welsh families as reported by John Edward Griffiths (references T1-T22).

In due course we will add 2 more sections:
(C) the ancestors of the 5 Royal Tribes of Wales as reported in various web sites (references R1-R5).
(D) the ancestors of the 15 Noble Tribes of Wales as reported in various web sites (references N1-N15).

Where the same person appears in more than one section and we have that person in the database, we only make one link between this page and the relevant database page (normally giving precedence to section B) but cross-refer between the relevant sections on this page. Note that sometimes someone is shown in one of the sections even though he was an ancestor/descendant of someone else who is also shown. For example: Einion ap Gerant (F35) and Ednyfed Vychan (F11/T1) are shown separately even though they were both descendants of Marchudd ap Cynan (F16/T19).
