The Descendants of Evan Griffith born 23rd Dec 1729 ?Cardiganshire Wales

Two male line Evan Griffith descendants have participated in the Griffith Y DNA project showing only two single point deviations on a total of 37 markers, which kit 259187, Griffith-McDaniel tested a total of 64 markers and did the deepclade test to establish the exact haplogroup as R-CTS1751. With these values a database search could be made for other persons whose ancestors adopted other names when their immigration to Anglo-Saxon areas resulted in a change from patronymics to family names, which might allow us to establish who Evan Griffith's father or earlier ancestor was.

Eugene Griffith-McDaniels is also the author's strong autosomal DNA match, so there is definitely genetic relationship. The extension of kit 370271 to 64 markers and the participation of a third male line Griffith in the Y DNA test would help determine which of the test values is mutative and which original. He has a long DNA match with the author on chr 1 which can be considered DNA from the closest common ancestor Evan Griffith or Sarah Willoughby at G7. This is a range that is of mixed ethnic origin but largely similar on both sides of the author's family with some North Sea DNA at both end while the middle is Eastern European middle-left then going right some East Mediterranean then Atlantic before changing back to NS again.

MJP Grundy has published a pedigree that may be related to the author's line, beginning with Griffith ap Hugh, or Griffith Hugh, provides a good starting poin, born about 1601, the third son of Hugh ap Jenkin ap Griffith and his second wife, his cousin Mary ferch Lewis, but goes over immigrants to
Chester Co PA.

The Griffith family legend is that an ancestor of Evan Griffith was the second twin son of a lord and missed out on the inheritance due to the law of primogeniture.
Following Welsh families is more difficult in Wales than in England because there were no family names, only patronymics. So Evan's father may have had Griffith as a Christian name in which case Evan was was called Evan ab Griffith while his sisters would have been Sarah verch Griffith. "Ap" or "ab" meant "son of", "verch" meant "daughter of". If Griffith's father was called Owen, then Griffith was Griffith ab Owen. When Welsh emigrants left Wales the Anglo-Saxon officials gave them family names leaving out the "ab" and "verch".

Willoughby Griffith b Mar. 20, 1766 in Fauquier Co., Va d May 26, 1841 in Fleming Co., Ky. Willoughby Griffith took out a marriage bond in Boy1e Co., Ky. on April 5, 1794 to marry Mary Ann Owens Ow6. Her brother Jeremiah Owens was bondsman. They were married Apr. 8, 1794 near Danville, Boyle Co., Ky. and left the neighborhood of Danville Ky to settle near Washington in Mason Co. Ky where they remained until 1801/2 when they moved to Fleming Co Ky about ½ mile from Flemingsburg. The moving is likely to have been caused by title problems arising from grants being sold in Virginia to planters who moved to Ky at a much later date. The settlers who cleared the land and fought off the Indians were often deposessed of the improved land which they claimed but failed to get a valid title to.

Willoughby Griffith and Mary Ann Owens are both buried in the Griffith family cemetery on their old farm.

Willoughby Griffith and Mary Ann Owens left the neighborhood of Danville, Ky. and settled near Washington in Mason Co., Ky. where they remained until 1801 or 1802 when they moved to Fleming Co. and settled about a mile and a half from Flemingsburg. Willoughby Griffith had gone from Fauquier Co., Va. to Boyle Co., Ky. in 1788. He fought in the Indian Wars and is believed to have served in the Army with General Anthony Wayne.

In the name of God Amen I Charles Griffith of Ann Arundell County being weak of Body but of Sound Disposing mind and memory praises be to Almighty God for the Same do therefore hereby make this my last will and Testaent in manner and form following I give my soul in hopes to receive pardon for my sins through the merits of my Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ and my Body I Commit to the Earth to by Buryed by the direction of my Executors hereafter Named.
Item I Give and bequeath to my son Charles Griffith and to his heirs forever all my land lying on the North Side of Severn run where his Building stands.
Item my will is that my land on the South side of the run be Equally divided between my three younger Sons Robert Griffith John Griffith and Basil Griffith to they and and their heirs forever my will is that my Sons run out the land and marke where it Crosses the Brance and run from one Crosing place to the other and Divide from the Branch through the land to the Outermost lines Each one having his part Convenient to his Building my will is that my son Bassil have my Mansion house with his part Conevnient thereto
Item I give and Bequeath to my Son Charles Griffith one Negroa Man n ame Sampson and one name Harry and my Prayer Book which is so mutch over and above his part of my Estate
Item I give to my son Robert Griffith one Negro man name Dick and one name Joshua which is so much Over and above his part of my Estate
Item I Give and bequeath to my son John Griffith one Negroa man name Allick and one Woman name Bess Which is so much over and above his part of my Estate

I Give and Bequath all my Resedue of my Personal Estate after my Just debts and Funeral Charges paid to be Equally Divided Between my Eleven Children share and share alike part and part alike that each of them have their proportionable [?] part According to Apraisement I do Hereby Appoint -- Constitute and Ordain my loveing Sons Charles Griffith Robert Griffith and son in law Vachil Warfield full and Soul Executors of this my last will and Testament herby Revokeing all former Wills by me made and this only to taken for my last will and Testament Which I hope my Executors will Carefully and Punctuly Observe and Execute without any Commission for their Trouble. Military: Captain Notes from USGenweb: In 1734, leased 10,000 acres of Carrollton and lived on "Black Acre" appointed constable for Upper Monocacy Hundred in 1735. In 1757 when William Griffith died, his son (and signatory) Orlando Griffith continued to live on "Black Acre." In 1758 Orlando resurveyed the area, increasing its acreage to 708 acres and renaming it "Griffith's Chance." Ultimately he held 1,002 acres and land extending as far as today's Greenfield Mills.
