No32. UHTRED of NORTHUMBRIA b 971 Northumbria d 1016 "the Bold, Ealdorman of Northumbria"
m ECGFRIDA OF DURHAM
No31 EALDRED/Aldred II EARL OF BERNICIA" OF2 BAMBUR b omk. 990, Bernicia, Northumbria England. Bernicia (Old English: Bernice, Bryneich, Beornice; Latin: Bernicia) was an Anglo-Saxon kingdom established by Anglian settlers of the 6th century in what is now southeastern Scotland and North East England. The Anglian territory of Bernicia was approximately equivalent to the modern English counties of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, and Durham, as well as the Scottish counties of Berwickshire and East Lothian, stretching from the Forth to the Tees. In the early 7th century, it merged with its southern neighbour, Deira, to form the kingdom of Northumbria, and its borders subsequently expanded considerably.

m ASBJORN ULFSSON SPRACKLING b 1022 Knardrup, Frederiksborg, Denmark. One of three daughters, all named Aeffled, by Ealdred of Bamburgh, Earl of Bernicia and an unknown wife ... this is NOT the one who married Siward, Earl of Northumbria ancestors of Atholl (Simeon of Durham).

Welcome to the Medieval Project!
In the history of Europe, the Middle Ages or Medieval Period lasted from the 5th to the 15th century. It began with the fall of the Western Roman Empire and merged into the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery. This Project is for WikiTreers who are pre-1500 certified and interested in improving the profiles of people that lived prior to the year 1500 A.D.
No30-2-1 SIGNE ASBJØRNSDATTER SPRACKLING b 1063, Sorø, Vestsjalland, Denmark.
m SKJALM TOKESEN GALEN HVIDE b 1034 d 1113 Fjenneslev, Alsted, Sorø, Denmark son of TOKE HVIDE and INGEBURG OTTARSDATTER
Skjalm Hvide, died after 1102. (The often stated death years 1113 or 1116 have nothing to do with it). Originally buried in Fjenneslev, later moved to Sorø Church. A lead plate found in the grave, probably from the late 12th century with the inscription that Absalon's grandfather Skjalm lies here. Probably had estates in Jørlunde (Jørlunde S., Lynge-Frederiksborg H.) and in Haverup Ore (Pedersborg S., Alsted H.). In both places, several branches of descendants owned estates. Presumably also estate in Fjenneslev, where he was originally buried according to the Grave Catalogue, but otherwise the connection to Fjenneslev is poorly established. Son of Toke Trulle. Brother Aute. According to the Valdemar tradition, Duke Knud Lavard was raised after his father, King Erik Ejegod, went on a pilgrimage. Saxo connects Skjalm with Rygen in several passages, the interrelationship of which is difficult to discern. In response to the killing of his brother by Wendish pirates, should have called together a Zealand army that went to attack Rygen. Perhaps in this connection, that he made the island "taxable", as is mentioned later in Saxo. Made once after this event by Erik bailiff over the island. In a passage about much later events, it is mentioned that Skjalm should have brought about peace between the Wenders and Danes and once ruled the Wenders. According to Saxo, also bailiff over Zealand, respectively commander of the troop mobilization, the meaning of the mention is debated. The grandson Absalon told more than a hundred years after the event that Skjalm took part on Sven Estridsen's side in his battles against King Harald Hårderåde around 1065 and showed great personal bravery. Skjalm's participation here is chronologically possible, but it is possibly a legend. Buried in Sorø Kirke, Alsted, Sorø, DenmarkSkjalm Hvide, died after 1102. On the helmet two horns of the same division, each studded with three peacock feathers. NB. The weapon with the beams is on this page used generally for Hvide and Galen and several others. The white descendants used many other weapons than just this one.
No30-2-1-1 ASSER RIG HVIDE d 1150 Sorø Klosterkirke, Alsted, Sorø, Denmark. 5. ASSER RIG5 HVIDE (SIGNE ASBJØRNSDATTER4 SPRACKLING, AELFLED3 BAMBURGH, EALDRED EARL OF BERNICIA" OF2 BAMBUR, UHTRED OF1 NORTHUMBRIA) døde 1150 Sorø Klosterkirke, Alsted, Sorø, Denmark. Notater for ASSER RIG HVIDE: Notes Probably owned a farm in Kirke Fjenneslev (Fjenneslev S., Alsted H.). - According to a story known from the 16th century, Fjenneslev Church was built while the wife put two towers on the church. There is no historical core in the story beyond the family's connection to Fjenneslev.descendant - - THE ASSER LINE. Probably owned a farm in Kirke Fjenneslev (Fjenneslev S., Alsted H.). - According to a story known from the 16th century, Fjenneslev Church was built while the wife put two towers on the church. There is no historical core in the story beyond the family's connection to Fjenneslev.

No30-2-1-2 EBBE SKJALMSEN HVIDE, d 1150/1, Sorø Klosterkirke, Alsted, Sorø, Denmark. Linje Skjalm Hvides efterslægt II - EBBE-LINJEN. Notes Must have owned a large part of Haverup Ore (Pedersborg S., Alsted H.), of which the heirs are seen to have shares in the 1190s. Presumably also estate in Bjernede (Bjernede S., Alsted H.), where he had a wooden church built. Had a house in Roskilde (Sømme H.). At his death, the spouse donated Sorø Kloster Sasserbro Mølle (Alsted S., Alsted H.). - Witness for King Erik III Lam (undated). Managed the foundation of Sorø Monastery with brother Asser. Close and important adviser to King Sven III Grate. According to Saxo, Sven did nothing without consulting Ebbe, his role is similarly portrayed in the Icelandic Knytlingasaga. At the start of the civil war, set to guard Roskilde for Sven and held the city here against King Knud V Magnusen. Later, Knud burned down his house in the city. - Often identified with Ebbe of Bastrup, who testified for King Niels 1104/34. From this follows the assumption that Ebbe was the burgher of the still existing Bastrup tower. The identification is possible. Ebbe's descendants owned some estates in areas near Bastrap (see section on estates). But it can only be an assumption, Ebbe was a commonly used name. In DAA's pedigree the Hvidelijn under Galen from 1893 ancestor of this one. On the 1515 frieze, the grandson Peder Pedersen is mentioned. Both the grandson and the resulting son, Peder, are only known from the frieze, which is not enough to make their existence probable.
-1 11. i. GYDE EBBESDATTER HVIDE d. by 1199, Sorø Klosterkirke, Alsted, Sorø, Denmark.
No30-2-1-3 MAGGA SKJALMSDATTER HVIDE, d. ett. 1160, Vor Frue Kloster, Roskilde, Sømme, Roskilde, Denmark. Donated Sorø Kloster his share of Haverup Ore, probably inheritance from Skjalm. - Entered, probably at an advanced age, in Roskilde Our Lady Kloster, according to the Book of Gifts as a widow. Perhaps the "Margrethe called Magga", nun, widow and died 30 June, which is listed in the Lundenekrologiet and Lund's gift book by hand from the middle of the 12th century. The genealogy mentions Skjalm's daughter Margrethe, a nun in Roskilde, while the Gift Book and Sorø foundation history mention Skjalm's daughter Magga, also a nun in Roskilde. It is undoubtedly the same person
No30-2-1-4 SUNE SKJALMSEN HVIDE d by 1140. Is not mentioned with his three brothers in the description of the first plans to found Sorø Monastery in the 1140s and has probably died before the foundation started. - Possessed part of Haverap Ore. - Only mentioned in the Genealogy and in the Sorø abbot list, where abbot Johannes Kåre is mentioned as his descendant. Sune's role and entire existence is debated.

No30-2-1-6 CECILIE SKJALMSDATTER HVIDE, d. 1160, Sorø Klosterkirke, Alsted, Sorø, Danmark
m PEDER TORSTENSEN d 1173.
Donated Sorø Kloster 2 farms in Førslev (Førslev S., Ringsted H. or Førslev S., Øster Flakkebjerg H.) or Ferslev (Ferslev S., Horns H.). Some or perhaps all of the estate north of Sorø, which is known from the grandchildren, must have been Cecilie's inheritance or dowry. - Lived at the castle in what is now Pedersborg north of Sorø. In the Book of Gifts called Cecilie af Borg and described as "A very pious woman". After a completely unreliable but entertaining legend coveted by King Valdemar.
PEDER TORSTENSEN: one of King Sven III Grate's closest advisers in the period 1151-54, from around 1160 in Valdemar the Great's council, died after 1173. The town of Pedersborg is probably named after him

Notater for ESBERN SNARE HVIDE: Was a warrior and chief, and as brother to Absalon he fought together with Valdemar 1. the Great in the Battle of Grathe Hede in 1157, built the castle Kalundborg around 1170. The town of the same name grew up around this. He also laid the foundation for the five-towered church "Our Lady's Church" which was built by his children. Barn av ESBERN SNARE HVIDE er: 15. i. m OLUF GLUG. Han døde ett. 1148. Notater for GYDE EBBESDATTER HVIDE: Notes died before 1199 where the son most recently held her inheritance. - Donated in the second half of the 12th century to Sorø Kloster 14 marks of dodgy land and half a mark of Ornum in Sigersted (Sigersted S., Ringsted H.) and ½ bol meadow at Vrangstrap (Vrangstrup S., Tybjerg H.) called Gydemade. - Married to Olaf Glug, one of Sven Grate's trusted men 1147-1148 (Knytlinga), perhaps the Olaf Saxo mentions as leader of several return journeys. - The genealogy only mentions the son Ebbe. According to the Grave Catalogue, Olaf Glug also had children Asser, Gumme, Niels and Margrethe. In the Broderlist, the "brothers" Asser, Gumme and Ebbe appear just below Olaf Glug, which seems to confirm the Grave Catalogue. Everyone is included here, although Niels in particular is uncertain. Over time, a number of sons have been attributed to Olaf who are not included here. Only Ebbe is certainly Gyde's son, the others may be Olaf Glug's children from a possible second marriage. A son, Hemming, who i.a. found in Langebek's family tree, is in the DAA's pedigree for the Snubbe family from 1918 the ancestor of this one. m VAGN. Notater for INGERD CECILIESDATTER HVIDE: Probably owned the Pedersborg estate, which the son Johannes exchanged with Sorø Kloster in 1205. Married to Vagn, probably a Jutland nobleman, as there is some Jutland estate in the descendants, while the connection to Sorø was waning. - The children Ulf, Skjalm, Peder, Johannes, Niels and Margrethe, probably all with Vagn. The sons Ebbe and Sven are not accepted here. - The spouse Ulf, who appears in certain family trees, cannot be unequivocally verified, but there are certain indications that support his existence. In that case, the sons Ulf and Skjalm would be possible sons of Ulf Notater for VAGN: probably a Jutland magnate, as there is a lot of Jutland estate in the descendants, while the connection to Sorø was waning. Barn av INGERD HVIDE and VAGN er: i. SKJALM7 VAGNSEN, d. 1216, Sorø Klosterkirke, Alsted, Sorø, Danmark. Notater for SKJALM VAGNSEN: Buried in Sorø next to Absalon. - Had some land "within the perimeter of the city of Århus" which he donated to the Århus chapter before 1207. Donated land in Gimlinge, Gimlingetorp (both Gimlinge S., Vester Flakkebjerg H.) and Ormager (Easter Flakkebjerg H .?) to Sorø Kloster. Sold land at the site of Aneldthorp (possibly Hasle H.) to the successor Ebbe after 1207. After 1207 donated to the Århus Chapter possessions in Åby (Åby S., Hasle H.) and Brendstrup (Tilst S., Hasle H.), which were inherited from brother Johannes. Mill in Store Valby (Slagelse Skt. Mikkels S., Slagelse H.) and possessions in Næsby (Kirke Stillinge S., Slagelse H.)) and Hejninge (Hejninge S., Slagelse H.) deeded to Andreas Sunesen. - Canon in Lund, no later than 1203 provost in Aarhus, succeeded his brother Peder as bishop here. According to the Valdemaran Annals, elected in 1204, but 1207 (March 24) had not yet been consecrated. The Aarhus chapter's statutes issued during his episcopate. Had used the money from the church's building fund for private use and therefore had to transfer some of his own property to his half-cousin Andreas Sunesen for use by the church. The only datable document in which Skjalm is mentioned as a bishop is Pope Honorius II I's letter 1207 (March 24). Mentioned in the Broderlist with the "brothers" Sven and Ulf. ii. PEDER VAGNSEN, d. 11.04.1204, Aarhus St. Clement, Hasle, Aarhus, Denmark. Notater for PEDER VAGNSEN: Buried in Aarhus St. Clement. Remains of near-oriental silk episcopal robes found in the grave. - Estate donated to the Århus Chapter by will 1203: Giafhwath with everything (Zealand), Hørhoch (Zealand), Starteklinte (Vallekilde S., Ods H.) with the farm's peasants; All his property on Nekselø (Føllenslev S., Skippinge H.), Kysing (Saksild S., Hads H.), »Kipæstorp Øylland), Dyngby (Bjerager S., Hads H.), »Pulstorp (Jutland), Rude ( Saksild S., Hads H.), Årslev with mill (Årslev S., Sønderhald H .), Tilst (Tilst S., Hasle H.) 2 3/t bol, Koldkær (Vinding S., Ulfborg H.), Albærn (Jutland) 2 farm and mill, 1 farm in Strellev (Strellev S., Nørre Horne H.), farm in List (Ølgod S., Øster Horne H.), Ølgod (Ølgod S., Øster H om e H. ) with 1 mark of gold land, in Grefne 1 mill, Seldrup (Beder S., Ning H.), Weddetorp Øylland), Ramten (Ørum S., Djurs Nørre H.), Drammelstrup (Tinstrup S., Djurs Sønder H.) with 2 mills and peasants, in Holme parish (Ning H.) 6 marks of silver land, in Helgenæs (Helgenæs S., Mols H.) 1 farm, stables on Nekselø and in Drammelstmp, Skialthwet with appurtenances, all his property in Hasle ( Hasle S., Hasle H.), Swinhoc with mill, the land in Sprakælychi, Tulstrup (Tulstrup S., Ning H.), Agri (Agri S., Mols H.) with mill, the forest in Bogensø (Vistoft S., Mols H.), Bjødstrup (Tved S., Mols H.), Udby (Udby S., Rougsø H.). Also donated exclusive brand in Gråske (Tirstrup S., Djurs Sønder H.) to Århus. The extensive gifts of property that Peder also donated for the creation of 10 prebends are not known. - Presumably the Peder Vagnsen who was a witness for Knud Prislavsen in 1183. Bishop in Aarhus 1192-1204. Issued letters as such in 1195 in Århus and 1203 in Threltorp. During his episcopate, the priests were encouraged to deal responsibly with death gifts. Donated property for 10 prebends for the Århus chapter, the 6 confirmed in 1197, the last 4 only after his death, which must probably be considered the actual establishment of a chapter for the cathedral. Also donated his book collection to the chapter in 1195, as well as additional goods set up by testament in 1203 (Nov. 14). Began 1197 or shortly after the construction of a cathedral in stone, according to. St. Niels' remains where Niels' burial chapel was located. Mentioned as seriously ill in early 1204, shortly before his death, when both the Pope (Jan. 3) and the King (March 16) addressed the chapter directly. Listed in the Broderlist together with the brothers Niels and Johannes Kammermester. iii. JOHANNES VAGNSEN, d. 1215. Notater for JOHANNES VAGNSEN: mentioned 1182-1205. - The brother Skjalm left Jutland land in Åby and Brendstrup parishes. In 1205, the large, almost enclosed Pedersborg estate changed hands with Sorø Kloster. Sorø received (Peders) Borg with "everything attached", namely Haverup (Pedersborg S., Alsted H.), Borød (Pedersborg S., Alsted H.), a farm in Grøfte (Kindertofte S., Slagelse H.), Kindertofte (Kindertofte S., Slagelse H.), Landbotorp (Store Frederikslund, Kindertofte S., Slagelse H.) with the forest in Diunxwith, 6 1/4 bol in Witby (Vedbynørre, Ottestrup S., Slagelse H.), 1/4 bol in Skovse (Ottestrup S., Slagelse H.), 3 bol in Ørslev (Ørslev under Skoven, Bringstrup S,, Ringsted H.), 1½ mk in annual debt in Næsby (Kirke Stillinge S., Slagelse H.), Mørup farm (Fjenneslev S., Alsted H.) with forest, 13 ørtug annual debt in Ørslev (Bringstrup S., Ringsted H.). Enumerated in the brother list (As Jones Kammermester) with the brothers Peder af Århus and Niels. Witness to brother Peder's will 1203. Brother Skjalm inherited him, which is why he must have been childless. 19. iv. MARGRETHE INGERDSDATTER HVIDE, d. 1190, Sorø Klosterkirke, Alsted, Sorø, Denmark. v. ULF VAGNSEN, g. UNA. Notater for ULF VAGNSEN: Buried in Sorø. - Donated before 1190 Sorø Monastery estate on Rømø. He or rather his wife Una had smaller holdings in Scania, about 2 bol, about 1200 was donated to Sorø Kloster for her funeral. - Married to Una, possibly of Scanian descent. - Son Kristian is not accepted here.

Notater for PEDER STRANGESEN: Peder Strangesen, already in 1193 one of King Knud's noblest men and in the following years seems to have stayed with the counts of Orlamünde and his brother-in-law the count of Gleichen, stood in great esteem under Valdemar II and came into possession by his marriage to Esbern Snare's daughter of Kalundborg and must therefore be the Peder of Kalundborg to whom Valdemar II bestowed 12 farms on Fehmarn, which were called Petersdorf, worked in 1225 for King Valdemar's release from captivity and, second to Jakob of Møn, seals the 2nd settlement on the release of King Valdemar and his son , 1229 next to Jakob Sunesøn the letter with which Valdemar II gave his daughter-in-law southern Funen (Petrus Strangonis fil.) and 1230 the final settlement between King Valdemar and Count Gunzelin of Schwerin on the release of the king's sons and the last Danish hostages from the count's captivity. - Fed up with Sorø Kloster about the Stensømagle donated to the monastery by Esbern Snare's son Johannes in 1213, which Peder and Anders Grosen appropriated despite the church's judgment, wanted to go on a pilgrimage to the holy land after the death of King Valdemar II, but died in Ribe the same year (1241). The years of the abbot list are possibly inaccurate. Abbot of Esrum between the first and second abbot periods in Sorø. Must be the abbot Johannes who in 1234 produced letters from Pope Gregory IX for the benefit of the monastery. Probably the abbot Johannes who fought with Karl af Broby over a mill in 1228/50, and may be the abbot Johannes who received a gift in 1214/41 from Olaf Ebbesen. "for his father's main plot". - Both Olaf and his son Andreas were titled "Pincerna" in the Danish Rydårbog "Skænk", i.e. mouthpiece. For this reason, the term "Pincema lineage" is occasionally used for this line. However, it is hardly a question of anything other than that both have held office. As a witness in Ribe for Valdemar II 1229 titled fhv. mouth sideboard, and as a witness in Kolding for Abel and Kristoffer in 1245 titled mouth sideboard. - The children Andreas, Peder and Margrethe. Approved in 1300 his wife Marina's will, where she gave Sorø Kloster her main farm in Eskilstrup (Kirke-Eskilstrup S., Merløse H.) - A Niels Absalonsen appears in various contexts in the 13th and 14th centuries, without necessarily being the same or even this Niels Absalonsen. A Niels Absalonsen, bailiff in Roskilde, sealed a will in 1272. Sealed in 1291 Lave Lavesen's testament (see this one) in Kalundborg, in 1291 a Niels Absalonsen witnessed an Estonian-related royal issue in Ribe, and in 1296, according to a late handed down information, the king wrote to his bailiff in Estonia, Niels Akselsen [i.e. Absalonsen]. As he is the 5th member of the family here, he can hardly chronologically be the Niels Absalonsen who is known from 1327-29 and 1337 in the Zealand context, but this is also possible. Seal fragment 1272 with obliquely striated field and a pileod. Notater for MARINA MAREN: Sir. Johan Petersen's daughter-in-law, gave property in Merløse lordship to Sorø Kloster for her "tenant place". died shortly before 1300. - Buried in Sorø. - Sorø Kloster bequeathed his main farm in Eskilstrup (Kirke Eskildstrap S., Merløse H.), an altar chalice, some gold and silver. The spouse confirmed the gift 1300. - According to the Grave Catalogue, daughter of Johannes Ingeborgsen (s.d.). Here called Marina, in the gift book Mariane. Notes Probably childless marriage.

Notater for MARGRETHE OLAFSDATTER: Olufsdatter In 1266 Sorø Kloster donated his farm in Næsby (Næsby S., Tybjerg H.) to the value of 1 mark sake. - Called "Countess" in the Gift Book, which must refer to the marriage with Ernst of Gleichen. - Married 1° to Tyge (in Gaveboden called Tage) and then (at the latest 1266) married 2° to Count Ernst of Gleichen (F: Count Lambert II of Gleichen), German nobleman, in the service of King Valdemar II Sejr at the latest from 122S, later in the retinue or service of the kings Abel and Kristoffer I, also married to Ingeborg Ingeborgsdatter of the Asser line (see I, 20 ), died 1277. Tyge (Toke) is in DAA's pedigree of the family Saltensee [of Tystofte] from 1914 the ancestor of this one. - With Tyge, the children Olaf, Andreas and probably Niels (see note). With Ernst, the children Rikiza and Henrik. With either Ernst or Tyge's daughter Cecilie. The son Ivar was not included here (see note ) - 6 children: Sixth (seventh) generation II, no. 76-81. Notater for TYGE SALTENSEE: This old, respected, noble family from Zealand carried in its coat of arms two gold stags in a blue field, sometimes sprinkled with gold balls, on the helmet the same two stags. It is doubtful whether the family itself has had any fixed family name, its last members are sometimes given the name Skænk or Pincerna, because one of their ancestors had held this office; It got the Saltensee name because an old legend has it that a member of the Saltensee family, who carried a brick cut in the coat of arms, changed his coat of arms to the two deer antlers in memory of the fact that he had broken a horn at Nyborg Castle of the Devil, and from him the Tystofte Saltensee's were to originate. This legend preserved in some genealogy books will even know that the same murderous hero was the father-in-law of the living Mr. Niels Jensen (Rosenkrantz), and that although this Saltensee family just at the same time approx. 1434 died out in the male line. The nearby coat of arms is based on a plaster painting from Roskilde Cathedral nave, presumably in its time placed over Mr. Henrik Jensen's grave. It is assumed here that this is Olaf Tygesen, and therefore a prescription in the Genealogy, but the interpretation is debatable. m (2) CHRISTIERN DRAKE. Han b 1430 Denmark d 16.02.1484 Sunnaryd, Bolmsö, Kronoberg County, Sweden. Notater for MARGARETA SVENSDOTTER KRUMME: Margareta Svensdotter (Krumme), who was still alive on 26.2 1484 lived at Sunnaryd in Bolmsö sn, Västbo hd, was the daughter of Sven Bäk and Botild Klausdotter (Apellegard). Married 1 to Olof Jönsson in his second marriage, remarried after his death in 1455 to Christiern Drake. Notater for CHRISTIERN DRAKE: Squire. Married after 1484 to Margareta Svensdotter (Krumme), daughter of Sven Bäk d.y. (Krumme) and Botild Klausdotter Abildgaard. Christiern Drake af Västbo Drake Kristiern had only one son: Olof Kristiernsson Drake, who was probably born in the 1460s and died in 1518. He was married twice. In the first marriage with Kerstin Bengsdotter (Lily of Värnäs) the son 1. Kristiern Olofsson Drake was born, whose son Birger Kristiersson wrote himself Drake to Ramnäs. He had an illegitimate son Jöns, rider and father of the lieutenant Krister Drake, who was ennobled Drake by Torp och Hamra. 2. Ingeborg Olofsdotter was Kristiernsson's sister in Olof Kristiernsson's first marriage. She was married to Nils Arvidsson (Drake of Intorp) with descendants within the later generations of this family. No later than 1508, Olof Kristiernsson remarried Märta Arvidsdotter (Drake of Intorp), daughter of the Riksdag and lawman Arvid Knutsson (a cousin of Olof's son-in-law Nils Arvidsson) and Anna Gustafsdotter (Stenbock ää, granddaughter of Margareta Krumme's first husband Olov Stenbock). With this marriage, Olof became the brother-in-law of Olof Arvidsson, ancestor of the younger Capricorn family. Several of Olof and Märta's children also had genealogically interesting descendants. Two of the sons, Arvid and Claës, each married a sister Pedersdotter Hård av Segerstad. 3. Arvid Olofsson Drake was married to Brita Pedersdotter (Hård av Segerstad). In 1330 he acquired Ryd och Hammar (later Bolmsnäs > Liljenäs) in Torskinge, which the widow brought with her after Arvid's death in 1335 to her new marriage with Jöran Jönsson (Svan). Kristiern must have had Danish origins and was the castle lord at Alvsborg, before he settled in Sunnerbo, the then mainland part of Bolmsö parish and Västbo district, which after his death in 1484 is also believed to have been the seat of Margareta Krumme's widow. In the genealogical literature, the family is known as the Västbodrakarna. Barn av MARGARETA KRUMME and CHRISTIERN DRAKE er: 41. i. Notater for JOHAN DRAKE: "A dragon in a brown field." The letter of nobility issued by Queen Christina to Johan Christersson was also read, "in which the entrance is nothing else than as the stylus is customary for those who have just been nobilitated, but after that it is stated that he, Johan Drake, may use the name Drake, which his ancestors of age have had." Asked why he had been knighted and not naturalized, Johan Drake answered,af Torp och Hamra Buried Vallentuna, Uppland, Sweden Noble House Drake af Torp and Hamra nr 361 † Knighted 1646-08-31, introduced 1647. Probably extinct 1709-06-28. Already at the 1647 Riksdag, Magnus Drake af Hagelsrum wanted to contest the right to bear this family name, which had been ennobled the year before, but the nobility decided that he should keep his name according to the Kungl. His Majesty's letter, however, that the families should separately sign themselves to their estates, which the Land Marshal at the Royal Court of Sweden was to be able to do so. His Majesty's behalf ordered "the other Drake of Hagelsrum to regulate himself in effect." At the Riksdag of 1668 the question of the name was again raised by Major General Erik Drake af Hagelsrum, who, based on the provision in the The House of Nobility Ordinance that no one was allowed to take another person's name and "confuse the families", wanted to deprive Johan Christersson of the Drake name. He believed, however, that he could prove from old letters and writings that his ancestors had always been considered true nobles by the "Drake family," and showed "King Carl Knutsson's letters of nobility and nobility, given to Steen Jowansson, to be allowed to call himself Drake, and presented him with some of his kinship at the same time as the copian vijdare ytvijsar, which letter Johan Drake had received from his ancestors and had received." The surviving copy of the letter, enclosed with the nobility's minutes for the year 1668, is a letter of nobility, dated Stockholm castle 1468-10-30, whereby Karl Knutsson gives Sten Johansson freedom and nobility on the farms Drospalt and Lockebäck in Unnaryd parish in Jönköping county and vouches for him a shield and helmet and to use as weapons and to use as arms "a dragon in a brown field." The letter of nobility issued by Queen Christina to Johan Christersson was also read, "in which the entrance is nothing else than as the stylus is customary for those who have just been nobilitated, but after that it is stated that he, Johan Drake, may use the name Drake, which his ancestors of age have had." Asked why he had been knighted and not naturalized, Johan Drake answered, that he had understood nothing but that the letter of nobility was a confirmation of his old nobility, and that the secretary was at fault for "the letter being otherwise destroyed." A circumstance that emerged at both parliaments was that Johan Christersson's grandfather had prematurely "provided himself" with his wife, whom he then took into marriage. Possibly this has been the reason why the children were not considered to belong to the nobility. In the biography collection of the House of Nobility there is a undated and not signed, but apparently written by Johan Christersson himself about his fathers and mothers, and he states there as his grandfather Jöns Drake of Torp and as his paternal grandfather Börje Drake. He does not know for certain the name of his father, but he believes from what he has been told, that his name was Olaf Drake. Only the information about the grandfather has so far been verifiedChrister Drake's purchase of the property Torp was made at Vadsbro district court in 1625, his parents are also mentioned, but his father, who was dead at the time, is called Jöns Olsson.
