Cornwaleys bought of the Ship, Charles Magnett, Stephen Gray, Alice Moreman...... Ellen married Mr. Hawley and she testified on 27 Aug 1638 that her late lamented husband had died and he owed L400 to Cornwaleys. Thomas was one of the 14 freemen of St. Michaels Hundred who voted in Maryland's first election. They met at St. Inigoes on 19 Feb 1638-39 to elect two of their number to the new House of Burgesses, and Thomas's signature was third on the list of voters. St. Inigoes was 15 miles up from Point Lookout, between Chesapeake Bay and st. Mary's River where it empties into the mouth of the Potomac. In St. Mary's County. (The original court records of St. Mary's County were lost in a fire of 1768. A second fire in 1831 destroyed every surviving record, as well as most of the early history of the whole province.According the to "The County Courthouses and Records of Maryland" (1963) pt. 2 p. 158, "The register of wills fared somewhat better....The recorded Wills seem to be complete). The accounts were in small part preserved for the colonial period. All other Records series are found only after the Revolutionary period. Notater for FLORA JERNIGAN: Additional Information for Flora /Jernigan/ NOTES (1) As told to me by my mother - when Mary Jo Jernigan was a young girl, her family lived closed to Flora and Bob Hughes, one time Bob had come home from work and Flora needed some onions to have for their supper she was preparing. She went to their smokehouse to get them and in reaching down was bitten by a snake (they think it was a rattler). She went to bed and the next morning Bob took here to town to see a Doctor. Her arm was badly swollen, the Dr. said there was nothing he could do so Bob took Flora home where she soon lapsed into un- consciousness. Her whole body was very swollen, they didn't expect her to live. She finally recovered but it took her a long time to get better. (Ben J. used to call Georgia "Aunt Flora" as she reminded him of his sister Flora.) On the census record 1880 in Ellijay GA, Flora is not yet born which would make her come after her brother William who at the time the census was taken was 1 year old. Notater for ROBERT H HUGHES: Additional Information for Robert H. /Hughes/ NOTES (1) Robert went by the name Bob. Is a cousin to Wells and Horn. In 1920 census there is a 10 year old girl named Alice Wells, listed as a foster child living with Robert and Flora. Death dates and name listed on headstone in Checotah cemetery. 107.
