Ni3-5-1 George Nicholas V


    was the son of George Nicholas IV (Ni3-5) and Evelyn Belle Thompson,
    grandson of  George Nicholas III (Ni4) and Maary Anna Pope (Po4)



    Born: 1897, July 4, at "Fairview" in Shelby County, KY.
    Married: Never married.
    Died: 1927, April 8, in Louisville, KY.
    Buried: in Nicholas lot in Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelby County, KY.


    George Nicholas V was educated in the public schools in Louisville and vicinity, and in Louisville High Schools (Manual Training High and Louisville Boy's High, successively). He graduated at Bryant & Stratton's, also.

    In 1916, he joined the Kentucky State Guard. He served in the Mexican border with Field Hospital No. 1 and later in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, after the Guard was Federalized in 1917. He was honorably discharged at Camp Taylor, KY, as sergeant, being too young to enter the Officer's Training School to which he had nevertheless been recommended. He later enlisted in the Marine Corps, and served for a few months as sergeant until he was honorably discharged at Quantico, Virginia. He then held a Civil Service position with the Veteran's Administration in Louisville, Kentucky, where he remained until his death in 1927.

    He was buried with Masonic honors (Middletown, KY, Lodge) and military honors.
