George Nicholas V was educated in the public schools in Louisville and vicinity,
and in Louisville High Schools (Manual Training High and Louisville Boy's High,
successively). He graduated at Bryant & Stratton's, also.
In 1916, he joined the Kentucky State Guard. He served in the Mexican border with
Field Hospital No. 1 and later in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, after the Guard was
Federalized in 1917. He was honorably discharged at Camp Taylor, KY, as sergeant, being
too young to enter the Officer's Training School to which he had nevertheless been
recommended. He later enlisted in the Marine Corps, and served for a few months as
sergeant until he was honorably discharged at Quantico, Virginia. He then held a Civil
Service position with the Veteran's Administration in Louisville, Kentucky, where he
remained until his death in 1927.
He was buried with Masonic honors (Middletown, KY, Lodge) and military honors.
