DEPOSITION BOOK A (Old book found in the basement of the Bourbon County Court House, by Julia S. Ardery, and placed in office of County Clerk.)

Nov. 25, 1816--Deposition of Wm. Steele, taken at home of Jno Nesbitt, north side Hinkson Creek, to establish entry of 400 a and preemption of 1000 a. entered by Wm. Nesbit, states he, deponent, came to Ky. 1775 in co. with Wm. Nesbitt, Joseph Houston and others to the matter of about fourteen, at lower Blue Licks his co. was joined by John Hinkson, John Martin and others who had just come into Ky. That each company sent our parties to explore, and on their return whole co. as well as that of Hinkston and others traveled along the buffalo trace now called Limestone, passing by Millersburg to Lexington until they came to the buffalo road now called Hinkston's trace, turned from Limestone road, that Hinkston's co. took Hinkston's trace and advanced to what is now called Hinkston's Station, that co. in which deponent was, entered Limestone trace until they came to buffalo trail, since called Ruddell's road, encamped on Miller's Run, that co. selected spots for improving and drew lots, deponent, drew place on which he has since lived, and Wm. Nesbit improved on the place this day shown, that deponent in said yr. of 1775 assisted Wm. Nesbit in making his improvement, that co. of deponant was visited by co. from Hinkson's Station in 1775, after improvements were made; that John Martin, who established Martin's Station, was one of Hinkson's co. Martin's Station was about seven or eight miles from Wm. Nesbit's improvement, and Hinkson's Station about same distance. Deponent resided in Penn. in 1779 and in 1780 came to Ky., was at Martin's and Ruddle's Stations in 1780, that John Martin and John Haggin knew of improvement in 1779 or 1780, and he believes the following of Hinkson's co. knew of Nesbit's improvement 1775 and upwards to 1780: P. Logan, Richard Clark, Joseph Cowper, Joseph Houston and Jno. Miller.

William McClintocks deposition of 27 November 1816 states he came to KY in 1775 with Wm. Steele, Jos. Houston, William Nesbitt and others. He was not in KY from 1775-1784. [1]

David Marshalls deposition of 27 Nov 1816 states he explored, with James Powers, improvements of Wm. Steele and Wm. Nesbitt and that Powers had been in old Nesbit settlement from 1780-83. [1]

William Steeles deposition of 27 Nov 1816 states that he in company with Wm. Smith, made a survey of land for Nesbit. [1]

Robert Nesbit desposition states that he was with Wm. Steele, etc. [1]

From "Nesbitology 6-9":

When returning from Anderson last September we called on Miss Mary Nesbit at Allisonville; had a very pleasant visit with her. She said she has a cousin living in Borbon (Bourbon ?) County, Kentucky, that had looked up records on her family but had not gotten in touch with her to ask for her records or rather a copy of them. The only record I have ever found out about them is this -- 'That on August 20, 1798 William Nesbit of Borbon County, Ky, sold a farm to John Mears in Huntington Twp., Westmoreland Co., Pa., Record: Vol. 4, page 88, Grantee Book of Westmoreland Co. This seems to indicate that Wm. Nesbet, is possibly the father of the names you mention, William, Jeremiah, Samuel, Thomas, Nathan and Robert, but this is only conjecture. It would seem to indicate that Wm. Nesbet had moved from Westmoreland Co., Pa. to Bourbon Co., Ky, and later sold his farm in Westmoreland Co., just as my grandfather John Nesbit and great-grandfather, Wm. Nisbet sold their farms in Fairfield Twp. Westmoreland Co., Pa., after moving to Summit Co., Ohio as the records at Greensburgh, Pa. show.
