John Warton. The Wartons were Hull merchants who became the wealthiest family in Beverley in the seventeenth century.
1. Christopher Warton of Warton Lancashire? d 1466-7 (ancestor of Michael Warton of Beverley b c1624, a 09.1666 They were lords of the manor of Beverley Parks and Beverley.) Christopher Warton of Warton in the reign of Edward IV married Mary, daughter of William Lancaster, and was succeeded by a son, John Warton, in the reign of Henry VII.

Dugdale ends with naming their children. It appears that the sons dsp or emigrated; the latter would explain the appearance of the town name of Wharton and the parish of Overwharton in Stafford Co Va at about this time. The turmoils between 1685 - 89 brought the compromise of many a young nobleman and subsequent emigration with hidden tracks.
