It is really something to sing and dance about.
Dig up those old bones and get them dancing!

Change the two party system
so people against something like abortion
but for something like environmental protection never again get bigger and badder storms
and two bankrupting wars instead.

Du22. Thomas de Sutton, later Dudley of Clopton or Clapton, Northumberland d 1369
This Thomas, who is identifed by BEB1841 as having settled at Clapton, is "stated to have derived" from John Sutton who assumed the name of Dudley and was "father of Edmund Dudley, the notorious minister of Henry VII, and ancestor of the Dudleys, Earls of Warwick" who was "a descendant of" the John de Sutton who "was summoned to Parliament as Baron Sutton of Dudley in 1342." This is somewhat confused as the first John Sutton father of Edmund was the son of the one who was summoned to Parliament in 1342. As BEB1841 shows Thomas's grandson as having married in 1395, this does not leave many if any spare generations between Thomas and Lord John so it is perhaps understandable that various web sites show Thomas d 1369 as a younger son of Lord John. We provisionally follow that connection but think that, if it was so, he may have been illegitimate.
Du21. ?? Dudley generation missed out by some web sites
Du20 Richard Dudley of Cloptoncalled 'of Barnwell' by VCH which reports that the inherited the manor of Clapton aka Clopton from his father-in-law
m 1395 Agnes or Joan Hotot dau of Robert Hototcalled Joan by some web sites
BEB1841 jumps from this generation to Sir William, 1st Bart. Richard is the first Dudley mentioned by VCH which notes that the manor was being held in 1412 & 1428 by a John Scot, "presumably as a trustee, since Dudley afterwards enfeoffed other trustees, from whom his son and heir William, between 1467 and 1472 had difficulty in obtaining livery on coming of age." It is likely that the "Dudley" referred to was the following Richard. Much of the next 3 generations comes from various web sites but with the names of the squires being confirmed by VCH.
