According to BP1870, the progenitor of this family, who accompanied FitzStephen into Ireland, was Philip de Capell who obtained the estate of Aghadoe, co. Cork. BP1870 also refers to an ancient manuscript which mentions families that came to Ireland in the 12th or early 13th century and includes "James Chappell, otherwise Capell, otherwise Supple, Baron."
