Livingston 2

: Livingston of Callendar, Livingston of Linlithgow
James Livingston, 1st Lord of Callendar, Chamberlain d before 07.11.1467
m Marian d before 20.10.1478
1. James Livingston, 2nd Lord of Callendar dspm c1496
James is said to have married up to 3 times but, although marriages were certainly contracted, it is not certain that they ever took place. His brother David managed many of his affairs, suggesting that he was not fully capable of doing so by himself. The alleged marriages were to 1 Christian Erskine dau of Sir John Erskine of Kinnoull, 2 Christian Crichton dau of Sir Robert Crichton of Sanquhar and 3 Agnes Houstoun this last marriage being suggested by BE1883 but not by TSP which may indicate that this Agnes Houstoun was the one who married the 3rd Lord rather than the 2nd Lord. At least 1 daughter has been attributed to him but by which wife, or mistress, is not known:
A. Gertrude Livingston
m Walter Macfarlane, 9th of Arrochar d after 1460
2. Alexander Livingston
A. Sir John/James Livingston, 3rd Lord of Callendar d c1503
TSP Linlithgow reports only one marriage, to Agnes Houstoun, but BE1883 reports that his heir was son by an earlier marriage as shown below which we follow since TSP Wigtown reports that Elizabeth, dau of 1st Lord Fleming, did marry the 3rd Lord Livingston.

BE1883 Livingston of Linlithgow reports an additional daughter, Isabel, as marrying Nicol Ramsay of Dalhousie. That appears to be a confusion with the Isabella who is described in TSP Dalhousie as second daughter of Robert Livingston of Drumry and widow of Lord Bothwell and in TSP Ramsay of Bothwell as daughter of Livingston of East Wemyss. This leads to our view that she was not of this family but a daughter of Sir Robert Livingston of Easter Wemyss and Drumry.
