The castle was originally fortified in the time of the Saxons. About the year 1125, Lord William Percival named 'Lovel the Wolf" erected strong fortifications at Kari from which the name is taken. Much of the time during the reign of King Steven (1135-1154) the Barons were divided into two parties, Lord Kari being opposed to the King. He made so much trouble that Stephen turned his whole attention to Castle Kari and took it. In 1153, it was beseiged again and nearly ruined. Adam was granted command of the castle during the Reign of Henry II and Richard I. | The Manor House stands on the east side of the street and was a stately edifice. In those days the years were numbered by the year of the reign of a king - if at all - so the Harold could not recognize the implausibility of what he was writing down.
