A? | James Broun Major | As reported by Greg Stephens, a researcher of this family, the reference to him as a son of the above Ebenezer "...only appeared in a text from the 1800s which has since been copied into multiple sources and appears to be based on a memorial James placed in the old Orwell Churchyard to his grandparents. (A separate memorial with the spelling Brown rather than the existing memorial?) Of further concern is James doesn’t fit in with the Scottish naming convention used in this line and, without seeing the memorial inscription...." So his connection with this family can be doubted. The text also said he was in the military in the West Indies which makes me believe he is actually Major James Brown from the Colstoun line (close relatives) who was also in the West Indies and born around the same time and was later knighted. This seems to have been the James listed in brown02.htm. | |||||||||||||||||
