Sir Brian FitzAlan of Bedale, etc d 01.06.1306 The estate of Bedale and the Lord of the Manor passed via the eldest daughter: Agnes FitzAlan, whose marriage was granted on May 10, 1306 when she was aged just 8 to Sir Miles de Stapleton of Carlton, Yorkshire for his son: Sir Gilbert de Stapleton, Knt., d. before June 23, 1324 a younger son, whom she married before December 15, 1317,[6] in whose family Bedale remained for over a century, and was still in the possession of their great-great-grandson, Sir Miles Stapleton who died September 30, 1466. [7] His younger brother Brian Stapleton of Crispings in Happisburgh and Hasilden, Norfolk died about the same time and they both left only co-heiresses.[8] the destination of the Lordship of Bedale Manor is from this point unclear.

BLG1952 Chetwynd-Stapylton formerly of Wighill suggests that Agnes's mother was a daughter of John Baliol, King of Scotland. TCP FitzAlan identifies her only as Maud and provides no clue as to her parentage.

BE1883 Zouche of Ashby indicates that Alan la Zusche had yet another illegitimate son: Roger, founder of the Zouche families of Ashby and Haryngworth. However, TCP Zouche reports that that family's descent was from a daughter of Alan Fergant, Duke of Brittany, not from Alan la Zusche.
