WILLIAM WITHER, yeoman, son of John Withers, was married before 1630.
The first name of his wife is not certain, in the burial record for her
the name evidently was faded as it is given as '. . . Wither, wife of William
Wither of Arkholme was buried 20 Aug 1661.
WILLIAM WITHER, yeoman, is probably the William Wither of Arkholme, whose death is recorded on the register of Melling 10 Jun 1684." Authentic records give WILLIAM WITHER sons who sent to Stafford County, VA, and a son Thomas Wither who was Rector of Halton, and a daughter [Mary] who married John, son of Gyles Moore. The full records of this family of WILLIAM WITHERS, yeoman, must be given to show the connection between this family and the family in Stafford County, VA." The progenitor of this line is Sir Robert Wythers, Knight, who was born abt 1129 and married Joan de Bostock. Their descendants resided primarily in Lancashire, England. The first of their line in the United States were brothers, John and William Withers who appear to have imigrated from England in 1655, settling in Stafford Co., Va. The descendants of William Withers lived in Fauquier and Stafford Co. in Va. and Garrard and Lincoln Co., in Ky. Source: Sr. Robert Edwin Withers," Withers Family" Withers Family of
