Gundred is identified by various sources including BE1883 as daughter of William the Conqueror but this is strongly disputed by others. The connection shown here is somewhat controversial but was suggested in 1874 by J.R. Planché, whose excellent book on 'The Conqueror and his Companions' is available on a web site see the relevant section on the 'Individuals' page. This treats Gundred as The Conqueror's step-daughter rather than a daughter of his own blood. It is queried by TCP Surrey which identifies her as sister of Gerbod the Fleming, Earl of Chester, but is not certain that their father was Gerbod of St. Omer and supports a source that apparently rejects the idea that her mother was Matilda of Flanders. The connection shown here for Gundred's ancestry may yet be removed. | |||||||||||||||

BE1883 notes that "Watson, in his History of the House of Warren, corroborated by Camden and Ormerod, make this Reginald to have m. Aldelia de Mowbray, and to have had a son, William, from whom he deduces the family of Warren, of Poynton" but neverthess shows him as married to Alice de Wirmgay with the following children.
