My
grandparents came to Virginia not less a century ago, 1742, a young married
couple and settled near Philadelphia. Subsequently they moved Augusta County,
Virginia, prior to the Revolutionary War, for my father’s eldest brother
was at the siege of York. I should judge from the lands that my grandfather
and his sons possess, he was a man of

an officer in an expeditation from that county to Tyrgart’s valley; was
esteamed an enterprising man. Several of his children lie buried in one
of the old church yards of that county. After his removal ( this line did
not print off ) Harman’s unfortunate expedition across the Ohio. ( See
acct. of Gen. Harrart’s expedition, 1790, in the Western Review, 1820,
in which Col. Trotter is mentioned) I met one of his men in this country,
who spoke of Col. Trotter asexcellent
and humane officer…. ( His wife was named Margaret )
My
Uncle James was a merchant and owned much land in Ohio and Kentucky at
one time.
