Mc10 Mary McKay

Birth:  About 1604   of, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/9660/fam00180.htm gives her name as Mary McKay Powell and year of birth as 1608. Neither Mary nor Thomas Prather were noted in the Feb. 1623 census of Virginia made after the Indian massacre, but John and Cathren Powell were, so there are some doubt and conflicting statements here. The unusual occurance of Smith as a middle name also raises questions as to whether a maternal ancestor was named Smith or there was some friendship with a Jonathan Smith, but Middle names seem to have quite uncommon until after 1800. In Virginia there was only a Jonathan Giles but in a different area, and about 20 Smiths, three of them John, although a Jonathan Smith may have perished in the massacre.
