It is uncertain
whether the children are from the first marriage or his second marriage
or not from him at all. The authorīs decent from the following Joan Greene is a matter of established pedigrees registered at the College of Arms in London.
It also reasonably certain that her father was Walter Greene, but whether he was the same Walter Greene shown among the
established descendants of Alexander de Grene is less certain. We are, however, talking about people of the lessor nobility of England on both sides of the uncertain gap,
a class comprised of but a few thousand people at any one time, while there were but a handful of people of the name
Greene or Grene in this class at all living at any one time, and indeed even fewer named Walter Greene.
"Guesstimation" as to where odd ends fit into such a "limited edition puzzle" are hence reasonable,
provided there is plausibility in time and geography. Unfortunately, the Visitation Pedigrees are often devoid of dates of any kind, and a younger son was
regularly married into the estate of a family on the other side of the realm that was about to "daughter out". So the most reliable sources
are often devoid of the needed plausibility clues. So the author took up "gusstimating" dates of birth in the visitation
pedigrees years ago, cross-checking in pedigrees with known marriage connections to find any kind of time anchor for a spouse in a "timeless tree"
for "guesstimating" dates up and down in it. Data from other websites help in filling out the picture, but often a child is found to
have been born decades before the parents, so I am "convinced the time machine has been in business for ages." I wish I could get a ticket on it to clear things up!
Such careless work often makes me wonder whether anything on the website is credible at all.
As time goes on, more and more data scraps from the archives are being shown in the Internet about deeds and wills, often dated by the year of the reign of one King or the other,
so we can understand why British school children have to memorize the Royal succession and the respective years of the reign.
But this is all forgotten by the time they need it for genealogy.
