Do10-6 Joshua Dorsey was the son of son of Edward Dorsey (Do11) and Sarah Wyatt (Wy11). .

Born:  1686  Middle Neck Hundred, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland . Married: ANN RIDGELY, b. Bef 1690, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland  Died:  8 Nov 1747  Major’s Choice, Baltimore Co., Maryland  Death Note  To his wife Ann he bequeathed for life the dwelling plantation which was a 250 acre portion of Major’s Choice, slaves and other personalty. After her death, the plantation was to go to his youngest son, Charles. Henry received “Dorsey’s Angle” and “Dorsey’s Hills”, both tracts containing 200 acres each.  [3]  Discover/Founder  In 1732 he was appointed one of the commissioners to buy land and lay out the town of Elk Ridge near the head of the Patapsco River.  [2]  Military Note  In 1742 he served as Captain of the Elk Ridge, Maryland, Militia.,  [2, 3]  Real Estate  In 1700, before he became of age, his father gave him 100 acres of Major’s Choice in Baltimore Co., and in 1705, at the time of his father’s death, he received the plantation known as Barnes Folly and 100 acres of land called Long Reach.  [2]

Notes  At the age of about 18 he and his brother Samuel, along with their cousin Edward Dorsey, were apprenticed on British merchant ships which traveled to and from the old country. Eventually he settled on Major’s Choice, which had been willed to his brother Samuel. He took an active part in the affairs of the state. On 30 Oct. 1711 he was commissioned Justice of Baltimore Co., and again in 1714 and 1715.,  Toward the end of his life he was often indisposed, complaining of what he called “fits” - the source says they may have been vertigo. These caused him to ask to be relieved of his public responsibilities. [2, 3]
