DNA comparison of Matches shared by ...

To complete (replace the "XY" in the embedding tag with the name of the graphic generated to show all the matches you share with XY, i.e. MatchesXY.jpg. Then delete these instructions and parentheses)
(person whose name you checked and then clicked on the "in common with" filter tool) shares (total DNA shared with XY) cM of DNA, (tally of matches shared with XY) matches and (links to a family tree No. 1, replace fam1.htm with the file name for the family tree where XY shares your ancestry; replace XYancestor with the target name in the tree for XYs branch. Then delete these instructions and parentheses and write the family name), (repeat as for fam1), (repeat as for fam1 and fam2) with the author.
My longer matches on Chromosome 7 only seem to match each other in two cases, but on chr 12 Waren, Armstrong and Alexander have a short match with me in one place, while Brock, Alexander and Waren have another short match with me there. On 10 Burroughs and Armstrong match me. And on chr 2 Armstrong, Alexander and Burroughs all seem to share a match with me.
Waren has Cummings and Taylor among his ancestors.
Alexander shows only Howard as a name in common with my ancestors. And all three names occur among my maternal grandmother's maternal grndmother's mother's ancestors, who were all in Maryland and northern Virginia.
Armstrong shows Newton, Heinrich Frey/Anna Levering, Wilson, Boyse(=?Bayse), Mitchell, Dorsey, Williams, Carter, Massey, Smith, Wright, Pope, Harris and Bryant/Briand as names for possible common ancestors with me and Alexanders as well The geographical closeness of his Anne Pope to my Nathaniel Pope and the name John Washington Wright make me ask if she was the niece of the latter.

To the right Borroughs,B-W, Callison and Campbell show no names, but Burks shows Anderson (many matches showing that and I have a collateral line over my Mother Bland/Duncan/Gallop/Bryant/Arroyah/Wahanganoche leading to them as well as over her Nicholas/ Prather/Fontaine/Terrell/Overton line, which also seems to fit with Callison), Williams for me is not far off this line, Thornton is a collateral line among my maternal grandmother's ancestors, as is Clark, and Taylor appears 4 times among her ancestors.
Burks has the characteristic match on chr 22 with me for the Taylor/Swinderby line but does not have the one to the right of the break on chr 12 characteristic for descendants of Rowland Taylor, which Campbell does. But this would be on my maternal chromosome as discussed elsewhere on this page, while there are also matches along this range of my paternal chromosome which I attribute to Gilbert. The matches on chr 3, 6, 7 10 and 15 indicate that all have some ancestor in common, provided, of course, that they all match each other. If not, some are on my paternal side and the others on my maternal side. So I need feedback on this.

To the right Clara Janis Smith and I share a group of matches with Bryan, Burroughs, Dale Dondero, Fanshaw, Haddow, Harris, Ponton, the 3 Smotherman sisters, and Diane H surtees. Nellie Irene Reif also shares the match with Fanshaw but not with the others or Smith, or if so then sub threshhold. Harris shows Nuttall and Wilson ancestors; the former of which I have off my Prather line, and the latter of which I have as direct ancestors off my Nicholas/Cary/Wilson line and collaterally off my Harris/Jamison/Frye line.

The grouping of segments indicates that Smith and I share some common ancestors with the Smothermans and Surtees and other common ancestors with the others. Smith also has a Match by the unique name of Sisson, while I have a double maternal line of descent from the marriage of Nathaniel Pope and Mary Sisson, who remarried 4 times after his death and had issue.

The match range with the Smothermans on chr 2 tagged Smith has been identified due to the Hyatt/Smith line as DNA from Capt John Smith for some of my matches of Hyatt descent, while longer matches here extending to both sides are indicated by other matches to have to with my descent from the merchant or Baltimore of the same name b in the 1750 in Northern Ireland. As the former is in my maternal grandfather's quarter and the latter in my maternal grandmother's, I cannot have inherited this from both. While this weakens the evidence supporting the notion that the first child of Pocahontas was by Capt John Smith, it does give rise to the theory that the merchant John Smith was a descendant of Capt John Smith.

Eighth to the right, The matches on chr 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13,, 15, and 16 may all be Harris DNA. James Edwin Harris seems to be my nearer Harris relative, but the matching segments are all relatively short indicating a nearest common ancestor at G6+. The fact that he matches Dondero on chr 5 and 11, Fanshaw or respectively Haddow on chr 12 and Haddow on chr 16 indicate common ancestry between the two of us shared by them as well.

Ingalls has Workman and Wickoff ancestors, as does Reynolds. Waren has a Reynolds ancestor. Blackley is all Scottish with MacDonald and Mitchell ancestors, all born in Scotland.

Matches as seen by Reif.

The matches on chr 7 do not coincide except between Alexander and Myers with a very short overlapping between
Alexander and Irwin. Both are, however, also matches of my 2nd cousin, David Nicholas, which puts common ancestry
squarely in my maternal grandmother's quarter, But the matches on chr 11 and 12 might indicate a
distant common ancestor if they match mutually.
